Emergencies and disasters can happen at any time, often with little warning. Being prepared helps you protect yourself, your loved ones, and those who depend on you. Simple steps like making a family emergency plan, building an emergency supply kit, and knowing where to get reliable information can make a meaningful difference before, during, and after an emergency.
Taking time to prepare today can help you recover more quickly and support the safety of your family and your community.
- Create an evacuation plan ahead of time for when local emergencies occur.
- Use the Ready.gov Plan Form to create a user-friendly emergency plan. This plan is not saved, stored, or shared by any government agency and can easily be emailed to you once complete.
- Businesses can also take steps to plan and prepare for an emergency.
- Being prepared means having your own food, water, and other supplies to last for several days. An emergency supply list is available to help you build your kit.
- For any pets, older-adults, caregivers, people with disabilities prepare for them as well by building a kit to meet their essential needs.
Medina County residents and those who work in the county can sign up for Medina County Emergency Alerts, a free mass notification system that sends important emergency information and instructions by phone call, text message, and email. Residents previously registered through WENS must register again with the new system, as old registrations will not transfer automatically.
Medina Alerts may be used for severe weather, hazardous conditions, evacuations, law enforcement situations, and other emergencies. Registrants can also choose to receive optional National Weather Service weather warnings based on their registered address. For help registering, contact the Medina County EMA at 330-722-9240.
