The Medina County Health Department monitors outbreaks and health alerts. These might include infectious diseases, foodborne illnesses, food recalls, or other important health advisories that could impact our community. Below is a list of ongoing alerts.
In the News
TreeHouse Foods Waffle and Pancake Products Recall: TreeHouse foods announces voluntary recall of certain waffle and pancake products due to the potential for Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
- There have been no confirmed reports of illness linked to the recalled products to date.
- The recalled products were distributed throughout the United States and Canada and packaged in various formats under the brand names listed below.
- Consumers should check their freezers for any of the products listed below and refer to the UPC codes found on the recall list. If the UPC code matches, dispose of them or return the product to the place of purchase.

H5N1 Bird Flu: H5N1 bird flu is found in wild birds throughout the world and is causing outbreaks in poultry and U.S. dairy cows.
- The current risk to the public is low.
- A cattle herd in Wood County, Ohio, tested positive for bird flu in March of 2024. No cases have been identified in Medina County.
- Farmers, poultry workers, and livestock owners can reduce their risk of bird flu infection. Follow proper recommendations and avoid unprotected direct physical contact with sick or dead animals.
- The Medina County Health Department is monitoring this situation.
