Breastfeeding offers many health benefits to mothers, babies, and our communities. We are here to support your breastfeeding journey!

Below is a list of services we offer either at the Health Department or right in your own home. Call us at 330-723-9688, option 2, or submit a request form below.

Breastfeeding Basics Class

Prenatal breastfeeding education open to the public. Third Wednesday of each month at the Health Department, 11 am to 12 pm.

Family support also welcome to attend.

Breastfeeding Group

Mother-to-mother support and encouragement.

Second and fourth Wednesday of each month at the Health Department, 11 am to 12 pm.

Newborn Home Visit

Breastfeeding assistance, infant weight check, and other supportive services all in the comfort of your own home.

Benefits to Mother

Mothers who breastfeed their babies have a lower risk of:

  • Breast cancer
  • Ovarian cancer
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • High blood pressure

Benefits to Baby

Babies who are breastfed have a lower risk of:

  • Asthma
  • Obesity
  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Severe lower respiratory disease
  • Ear infections
  • Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)
  • Gastrointestinal infections (diarrhea and vomiting)

Pumping and storing breast milk is a great way  to build in flexibility with feeding and allows your baby to still receive important nutrients found in breast milk. Various factors affect how long human milk can be stored safely. It is important to prepare, store, and thaw breast milk properly.
