Position: Environmental Health Mosquito Control Program Intern

Employment Status: Internship

Wage: $10.50/hr

The selected student will receive hands-on training, education and experience to include, but not limited to: Evaluating possible mosquito breeding areas; applying larvicide materials to roadside ditches, storm water catch basins, and other standing water areas to control mosquito populations; recording the location and application rate and amounts of mosquito control materials as required by the Ohio Department of Agriculture and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency; setting Gravid traps in various locations throughout Medina County to capture adult mosquitoes for submission to the State for testing; operating larvicide application equipment (truck-mounted sprayer unit and gas-powered back pack sprayer units) in the course of working in the mosquito control program.

General Qualifications (including but not limited to):

Applicants must be a full-time college student with a minimum GPA of 2.5, majoring in a program of study, i.e. Biology, Environmental Health, Public Health, etc., possess the ability to acquire a working knowledge of applicable regulations, policies, and procedures for administration, surveillance, and chemical application in the mosquito control program, have knowledge about physical, biological, and/or environmental health sciences (e.g. microbiology, chemistry, entomology); have a valid Ohio driver’s license with a safe driving history, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation. Current Ohio Department of Agriculture Pesticide Commercial Applicator License is preferred.

Position: Health Center Office Supervisor

Employment Status: Non-Exempt, Full Time (40 hrs/wk)

Wage: Hourly, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Medina County Health Department, a nationally accredited health department, has a full-time career opportunity for a Health Center Office Supervisor. The Health Center Division is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in northeastern Ohio, providing primary care, dental care, behavioral health, and enabling services to 3,600 patients annually regardless of ability to pay. The Supervisor oversees a team of front desk and billing staff. The position involves quality improvement activities related to patient registration, process efficiency, and revenue collection.

General Qualifications (including but not limited to):

Candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare, business or related field. Minimum two years related experience some of which must have included supervision. Medical office management, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), or eClinicalWorks EMR experience preferred.

Position: Family Practice Nurse Practitioner

The Medina County Health Department, a nationally accredited health department, has a full-time or part-time career opportunity for an experienced Certified Nurse Practitioner in our Health Center. The Health Center Division is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in northeastern Ohio, providing primary care, dental care, behavioral health, and enabling services to 3,600 patients annually regardless of ability to pay. The Nurse Practitioner provides direct clinical services to individuals receiving medical care in the health center clinics in Medina and Wadsworth, and at collaborating agencies. Performs on-call duties as assigned.

General Qualifications (including but not limited to):

Candidate must have a Master’s of Science in Nursing (required minimum) or Doctorate of Nursing Practice. Experience in practice specialty area as well as certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Candidate must hold license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio and hold a Certificate of Authority for Advanced Practice Nursing in Ohio. Current DEA license.

Applicant should have a thorough knowledge of patient-centered approach and the fundamentals of value-based medicine. SANE certification a plus.

Epi Assistant (Contractor) Job Responsibilities

  1. Perform Epi Assistant activities on an as needed basis in accordance with MCHD and the Ohio Department of Health guidelines.
  2. Attend all training as scheduled.
  3. Call contacts of newly diagnosed cases using a telephone and communicate with contacts in a professional and empathetic manner showing patience to distressed individuals.
  4. Collect and proficiently record information on symptoms into a database using a computer.
  5. Refrain from research with contact records or contacts, either directly or indirectly.
  6. Provide contacts with approved information about Ohio quarantine procedures, and if appropriate, refer them to testing according to established protocol.
  7. Comply with all laws regarding equal opportunity and non-discrimination. No person shall, on the grounds of race, color, religion, creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, age, handicap, disability or military status be excluded from participation in any program or activity sponsored by the parties to the Agreement.

Additional Information

The Epi Assistant will acknowledge in an Agreement that he/she is not an employee of the Board of Health and is not entitled to vacation pay, sick leave, retirement benefits, participation in the Public Employees Retirement System, workers compensation, unemployment benefits, Medicare, or other benefits, which may be conferred upon an employee by virtue of his or her employment status. .

The Epi Assistant will acknowledge in an Agreement that he/she is an independent contractor and not an employee under the Agreement. In order to protect the Board and the Medina County Health Department from liability, the Board of Health will include the Epi Assistant in its general liability policy. This general liability policy will not provide malpractice coverage to the Epi Assistant as the Epi Assistant will not be engaged in medical decision making or providing medical advice while performing Epi Assistant duties on behalf of the Medina County Combined General Health District during the term of the agreement.
